Daily Affirmation

There’s many questions you ask yourself as a musician as you sludge through your respective day job (bills must be paid).  Why am I here instead of the studio? Why do I have a calculator in my hand instead of a guitar? But there’s one question I ask myself more than any other:

Great cover of a Pixies classic from Trampled By Turtles.

” I ask myself – Where is my mind – Way out in the water, see it swimming”

If anyone has the answer to these grand questions of life, please let me know.

Less Is More

Another gem from Rev Peyton’s Big Damn Band. Real simple – vocal, guitar, drums, percussion. No over production. There’s a  studio lesson to be learned there – the song is good; record it; don’t  f***  it up.  God, I love some open space in a song so it can breathe.

And it’s the friggin funniest video I’ve seen in a while. Same thing, a simple concept that fits the music.

Enjoy – gotta watch to the end – there’s about 30 seconds of space before the last shot – is it a test of the average person’s ridiculously short attention  span?

The Season To Write

I find that Autumn is my favorite season to write and record new music. It has that cool ‘end of the day’ sunset feel. I like to throw ideas down on a small digital recorder – I find that if I go in to the studio with a song idea I can get caught up in the tech of recording and lose the first feel and vibe. Of course we also do a lot of initial studio work – right now we’re mixing down new songs and finding new artists to work with. Hopefully we’ll be debuting some new artists on the blog in the near future.
At the moment we’re dealing with the frustration of the storm aftermath in the Northeast – four days without power and counting (we have a generator so I can at least get on the PC, but I wouldn’t try to run the studio with it). We had the same problem last year – big storm, no power.
Oh well, back to the handheld digital.
